The Circle of Karma is the first novel by a woman to come out of the small kingdom of Bhutan. Written in English, the novel tells the story of Tsomo, a young Bhutanese woman who embarks on the difficult and lonely journey of life. Tsomo’s travels, which begin after her mother’s death, take her away from her family, and leads her across Bhutan and into India. När det gäller att hitta böcker från vissa länder är det otroligt svår och från Bhutan kunde jag bara hitta denna bok. Turligt nog gick den att få tag på via fjärrlån.
Jag vet inte riktigt vad jag tycka om den här boken, det finns saker som är intressanta och jag blir också upprör när jag läser den. Tsumo är bitvis en intressant karaktär, framförallt när hon är på egen hand. Men största delen av boken är mest bara tragisk, männen utnyttjar och behandlar alla kvinnor illa vilket blir ganska jobbigt att läsa om i längden. Däremot tycker jag att den var ganska seg att läsa och att det i vissa stunder av boken inte alls hände något, vilket gjorde den lite tråkig ibland.
Sen märks det ju att boken skildrar en annan kultur och jag uppskattar ändå den inblicken man får i ett land som jag inte alls haft koll på innan.
